Mirza (Amitabh Bachchan) is constantly at odds with Baankey Rastogi (Ayushmann Khurrana), who is one of the tenants of his deteriorating haveli, Fatima Mahal in Lucknow. While the ramshackle mansion belongs to Mirza’s wife, Begum (Farrukh Jafar), the old man is always planning to evict Baankey and his clan, as they often avoid paying their miserable rent sum. Mirza tries every trick in his book to get rid of Bankey, but the latter attacks him insult for insult and ploy for the ploy. Soon, however, the duo unknowingly becomes pawns in a bigger game, when their paths intersect with Gyanesh Shukla (Vijay Raaz), an archeology department official, and Christopher Clarke (Brijendra Kala), a lawyer. Will Mirza’s lifelong romance with Fatima Mahal be cut off? The rest of the plot has an answer to that.
